Visual Field Enhancement/Coordination
Make a horse riding stance and extend your arms out to the side. Your partner then moves a foam blocker around your limbs causing you to move them one at a time. Begin with your partner in front of you, moving the pad slowly in one direction, then telling you when they will change the direction. Do not move your head. As you become more skilful with this, your partner may speed up, change direction more frequently, and without warning. The ultimate test is to have your partner standing behind you moving the blocker (firstly with you knowing the direction of movement) and for you to 'anticipate' where he is. This becomes much more difficult if the direction is changed without warning.
What Visual Field Enhancement does
This exercise will enhance the awareness of the student's visual field. By keeping the head and eyes still, and trusting the information will still be picked up and processed by the brain, we are training individuals to expand their awareness. As the changes of direction become more frequent, reaction time becomes a factor also. Reports of enormously expanded visual awareness have resulted from regular practice of this exercise. |
